Different Types of Standards for Mil-Grade Connectors Available in the Market
Wires, cables, printed circuit boards, and electronic components communicate with each other through connectors. In large military applications, Mil-grade connectors serve the purpose of safeguarding electrical devices. Military connections are also known as MIL-STD connectors or MIL-SPEC connectors. If the interfaces are circular, a link formed by conductor component contacts can be a port or a plug. They must be reasonably adaptable and efficient to fulfil the military’s strict criteria and reliability with a wide range of applications. Such connectors withstand normal wear and tear with various environmental conditions and stimuli, such as high heat, humidity, and excessive amounts of rain and snow. They are strong, dependable, and have long-lasting connections. These shell connectors are rectangular or cylindrical.
Mil-grade connectors use the following types of connector standards:
1. MIL-DTL-38999
- Also known as MIL-C-38999.
- Consist of four different types of dense tiny round connectors.
- Having greater density and rapid detachable connection.
- Usage in hostile conditions.
- Each of these four series has a unique identity: Bayonet connection mechanism with scoop-proof design in Series 1; low-profile detachable connection to suit mass limitations in series 2; self-locking connection system in series 3; Breech-lock connection system in Series 4.
2. MIL-DTL-26482
- They are known as MIL-C-26482.
- They consist of two types of fast-disconnect tiny round connectors that are ecologically isolated.
- They have a detachable connection system and appropriate equipment, such as backshells and coating choices.
- Waterproof containers are available in each type.
- When employing power contacts, the two series of connections have the physical properties of joining connection components at their most basic, but not when using insulated contacts.
3. MIL-DTL-5015
- MIL DTL 5015 are specified as MIL-C-5015.
- These are massive round connectors standard in electronic connecting systems.
- Feature a screwed or detachable connection with soldered or separable tab contacts.
- Business and defence field applications used them.
- Circular electrical connections with soldered or detachable tab contacts come under this standard.
4. MIL-DTL-26500
- They are small and rapid-disconnect round connectors or terminals
- Provide better environmental protection and moisture tolerance.
- Military, telecom, and industrial applications used them.
- In high-vibration situations, they have detachable connections or screw connections.
5. MIL-C-27599
- They consist of two series of small and rapid detach round connectors.
- They have high-density and detachable electrical connections.
6. MIL-C-22992
- They are strong and rapidly detach multi-contact connectors.
- Military and industrial applications used them.
- High power support by these standards.
7. MIL-C-81703
- It consists of three types of round and micro-electrical connectors
- They are environment-resistant and have accessories with detachable tabs.
8. MIL-DTL-83723
- It consists of round electrical connectors with interfaces and accessories.
- They are environment resistant.
- These connections must use tab or solder contacts and operate within the stated range.
At last, Connectors are those devices that guarantee the supply is not interrupted at any point along its designated course. These connector standards are in place to ensure that connectors work correctly in harsh environmental conditions. Apart from military uses, other industries such as industrial, aerospace, automotive, medical, marine, and construction use them. Visit Allied Electronics Corporation for more information.
